Seachem Flourite Black is a specially fracted, stable, and porous clay gravel designed for natural planted aquariums. Its appearance is best suited for planted aquaria, but it can also be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary when using Seachem Flourite Black, as this product is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, though it can be mixed with other gravels.
When adding water to the aquarium, it is recommended to fill slowly to avoid disturbing the Flourite Black substrate bed. This can be done by placing a bowl in the aquarium and adding water directly to the bowl, allowing the water to overflow softly onto the gravel bed. Some initial cloudiness is normal, but this can be easily removed using mechanical filtration.
Flourite Black substrates are compatible with undergravel filters and will not soften or decompose to an unsuitable state within the tank. Additionally, Seachem Flourite Black is not chemically coated or treated, and thus does not alter the pH of the water. This substrate is beneficial for the life of the aquarium and need not be replaced.
